Taking its title from the posthumous art work by Marcel Duchamp, Étant Donnés is State of Mind’s most experimental work to date.
The work is based on lengthy studio improvisations, heavily edited and molded into new shapes – sometimes turning into abstract soundscapes – sometimes resembling traditional pop songs.
Stylistically all over the map, Étant Donnés travels through minimalism, glitch, synthpop, musique concréte, dub and other genres. Chance occurrences abound, thus paying hommage to Duchamp, the pioneer of the “readymade”.
